IRIS 360 Covid Security Suite | Case Study | Small Sized Hospital

Covid-19 disrupting lives all over the world is not a new piece of information anymore. People are scared to go anywhere at all, including to a hospital. Since hospitals have a high risk of becoming a Covid-19 hotspot, it has become extremely difficult for people with other medical emergencies to go to one. We were approached by a hospital that was facing a similar problem.

The Client

We were approached by a small-sized hospital that received up to 100-200 outdoor patients every day.

The Problem

In regular times, hospitals are places where people go to get cured. With the pandemic raging across the globe, hospitals have become the focus of suspicion as an increasing number of hospitals turn into hotspots, losing public trust.

In its effort to combat the pandemic, the concerned hospital wanted to ensure every safety measure was in place. The key areas as identified by the management to be monitored were:

  • To check if disinfection and sanitisation rules were being followed.
  • To check if the doctors and nurses were wearing proper PPE kits and masks.
  • To monitor if social distancing rules were being followed by everyone in general.

The hospital wanted to gain people’s trust by making the key metrics accessible to everyone availing its services.

The Solution

We deployed a Covid-19 Security suite on the existing CCTV infrastructure with an on-premise configuration. The installation, configuration, and testing took two days and the controls were handed over to the hospital’s administration on day three.

The system meticulously tracked the quality of disinfection and sanitisation processes, events of improper wearing of PPE kits and masks, and social distancing rules violation. The statistics were presented on an interactive dashboard that allowed the users to aggregate the numbers based on a day, week, month, year, or an area. The graphical representation of the data made the dashboard highly intuitive, provided actionable insights, and allowed the administration to form effective policies quickly.

A covid-19 compliance score was calculated, quantifying the hospital’s overall state of covid compliance. The same dashboard was accessible to everyone on the hospital’s local network to check the compliance score.

The Results

With the help of the alerts raised by the system, the administration was able to take quick actions.

The system exposed the alarming state of sanitisation in the hospital leading the authorities to take stringent action against the sanitisation workers. There were no violations reported for the improper wearing or misuse of the PPE kits. The most number of incidents reported were mask and social distancing rules violations. The prompt response by the staff members to the alerts raised by the system brought down mask violations drastically within three days while cases of social distancing rules violation gradually decreased over a couple of weeks. Within a week, the compliance score was brought down by 50%, allowing the hospital to avoid any disaster due to the lack of proper safety measures.
